Page 1
TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM

To: Ron DiDonato
From: NewFields MDTS
Project: Squaw Gulch VLP
Project No: 475.0106.006
Subject: Solution Collection Piping Modifications
Date: 22 August 2016

This memo is to provide engineering acceptance for the following design changes:
As shown in Figure 1, the twin 24” diameter solution collection pipes can be reduced to twin
12” diameter solution pipes at an elevation of 9850’ and higher.
Revising the alignment of the Barren Pipe along the Mill Platform.
As shown in Figure 2, the construction of the 12” diameter perimeter drain along the mill
platform is not required.
1.0 REDUCING THE SIZE OF THE TWIN 24” DIAMETER SOLUTION COLLECTION PIPES
NewFields was requested to evaluate the possibility of reducing the twin 24” diameter solution
collection pipes to twin 12” diameter solution collections pipes above the 9850’ construction
bench, as shown in Figure 1.
NewFields completed a review of the high volume solution collection piping calculations,
located in Appendix C.8 of the Cripple Creek & Victor Golding Mining Company Squaw Gulch
Valley Leach Facility Design, dated September 1, 2011, and updated the design flow for the
pipes in question using the following values:
Area of application contribution above the 9850’ construction bench is 660,282 ft2.
Mean slope of the area of application is 40.13%.
Maximum solution application rate is 0.003 gpm/ft2 (6.68 x 10‐6 cfs/ft2).
Using the values list above, Newfields calculated the maximum flowrate that could potentially
report to the twin pipes at the 9850’ construction bench. The design maximum flowrate was
9400 Station Street, Suite 300
Lone Tree, CO 80124

T: 720.508.3300
F: 720.508.3339
