Cultural Resource Site Assessments for Collom Expansion Project Colowyo
Figure 23. Site 5MF.6128 Overview. Facing West. Taken by J. Dugmore 9/11/2015
5MF.6130 — Prehistoric Lithic Scatter, Needs Data
Site 5MF.6130 was originally recorded in 2005 by TRC as part of the Colowyo Collom Mine
expansion project. The recordation reports the site as an anchored dune with associated surface
artifact scatter. The scatter includes two biface fragments of white opaque chert, one flake tool of
semi translucent chert, and 44 white chert and quartzite flakes. In 2015 Tetra Tech revisited the
site as part of the current undertaking (Figure 24). Some of the 2005 artifacts were observed
during revisit, but heavy vegetation growth obscured much of the ground surface. Observed
impacts were deflation of the dune along western side. The deflation is minor with no artifact
displacement noted. The overall site is unchanged since 2005.
NRHP Status and Condition Assessment
In 2005 TRC recommended that site 5MF.6130 needed additional data to determine its potential
for inclusion on the NRHP. Tetra Tech concurs with this recommendation. Observed impacts
during the revisit include minor deflation of the dune along the western side of the site. However,
despite the impacts, the anchored dune is still intact and retains a potential for subsurface cultural
component(s). The overall condition is unchanged since 2005.
Tetra Tech July 25, 2C 15 26
For Official Use Only: Disclosure of Site Locations Prohibited !43 CFR, 7 18)
