As
requested by you on behalf of the developer,Fremont Paving&Redi-Mix Inc. (P.O.Box 841,
Canon City, CO 81212), a noxious weed inspection of their proposed gravel mining area in Pueblo
County was conducted by the Turkey Creek CD. The inspection was performed by Bill Alt and
Beth Campbell, both representatives of Turkey Creek CD. The inspection took place on September
18, 2012, from approximately 9:00 a.m.to 1:00 p.m.
The proposed mining area is found roughly lying south of the Bessemer Ditch south of Olsen Road
between 40th Lane and Avondale Boulevard. The proposed mining area includes five parcels
owned by two separate entities. The proposed mining area includes the following Pueblo County
parcels owned by the Pritekel Brothers Farm,LLC(2 adjacent parcels totaling 472 acres): 13-000-
00-121 (in T21-R63-S25) and 13-000-00-102(in 721-R63-S24)and the following Pueblo County
parcels owned by the State of Colorado(3 adjacent parcels totaling 1,240 acres): 12-000-00-021 (in
T21-R62-S30), 12-000-00-020(in 121-R62-S19),and 13-000-00-093 (in T21-R63-S25). The
abovementioned five parcels total 1,712 acres of predominately undisturbed natural area.
At the time of inspection,no State-listed noxious plant species were observed on the proposed
gravel mine property as described above. Also, let it be noted that the current natural area was
observed to be suffering from the prolonged drought conditions affecting the county.
All surface mining activities generate situations that can easily result in noxious weed infestations.
Severe soil disturbance, creation of roads, high traffic volumes, and equipment movement between
TURKEY CREEK CONSERVATION DISTRICT, THE NOXIOUS WEED MANAGER FOR PUEBLO COUNTY, CO
