RECLAMATION PLAN
Daniels Sand Pit#2 - Little Johnson Area ONLY
Species Pounds Pure Live Seed/Acre
Thickspike Wheatgrass 1.0
Sand Bluestem 2.0
Sand Lovegrass 0.25
Smooth Brome (Manchar variety) 2.0
Big Bluestem(added in 2008)
Tall Wheatgrass 3.0
Blue Grama 0.5
Western Wheatgrass 2.0
TOTAL PLS PER ACRE = 13.75
The time of seeding needs to take into account the general climatic conditions, the
microclimatic conditions of the environment where the seeding will occur, and the method of
seeding to be used.
If the seed is to be drilled it can be seeded any time between the iddle of N mevo ber and
early a , unless the area to be seeded is a south facing slope in which case the period is mid
November to the end of March. Drill seeding can also be done between late August and late
September, but because fall moisture is often unreliable, seeding at this time may not produce the
best results.
If the seed is to be broadcast, the proper seeding time is between mid-December and the
end of February(level areas and all slopes).
WEED CONTROL: Weeds will undoubtedly be a problem, especially on this
area. Control is best achieved by not encouraging them in the first place. This will be
accomplished by not fertilizing and not irrigating. ood=chipmulc ould also help control the
weeds,by reducing nitrogen levels in the soil, but is not necessary if other control methods are
used. Chemical control should be used only for those species that cannot be controlled with
cultural or mechanical means.
Noxious weeds to watch for include Canada Thistle(Circium arvense), any of the
knapweeds (Centauria spp.), and Hoary cress a.k.a. whitetop (Cardaria draba). These are known
to live in the vicinity and may invade this site if given an opportunity.
Daniels Sand Pit Amendment (2008) Exhibit E Page 9 of 22
