RECLAMATION PLAN
groundwater remediation plan on the southern portions of the site east of Academy Boulevard
there are a lot of constraints imposed to produce a good blending of those uses with the pit itself.
The sediment pond area west of Academy Boulevard, now that the processing plant has ,
been removed from the permit, is rather easily reclaimed. When sediment deposition has been
completed and the area allowed to dry out some so the surface is more firm, thi area can be
tQ2soiled and seeded. In areas where woody vegetation has already become established, care
must be exercised to limit the amount of disturbance while reclaiming. There is little point in
destroying that which nature has provided and which already meets the selected final land use. It
may be that not much effort will be needed to reclaim this area, but anywhere nature has not
provided the proper natural vegetation, active reclamation will be required.
The east side of Academy is considerably more complex. The southeastern corner will
have a very gentle slope upward into the old Little Johnson Reservoir area. The southwestern
corner, where the ew sediment basin will be established, will be turned into a forested area very J
similar in size and character as the sediment basin on the west side of Academy. The rest of the
eastern side, all
Qf the northern side, and the west side north of the tunnel will hav 4:1 lopes
and5.1to -
aboveelopes below where the Fountain Mutual Ditch bench will be established.
These slopes will be revegetated to grass. The northern upper slope(above the ditch)will rise up
to the new airport highway. The rest of the west side and most of the south side will be sloped to
Q lend grade into the floor of the pit. It is important to note that on the south side there will be
somewhat of a broad terraced pattern with the higher level to the east and the lower level to the
west including the new sediment basin and its forested area. The oor of the pi will become a
bTg4 , nearly level grassed basin, possibly with some localized spots of woody vegetation where
the groundwater is closer to the surface.
No lakes will be created other than the recharge facility that has been in place for many
years. By the time all of this is finished or even well before that point, the remediation program
to remove solvents from the groundwater and being conducted by others may well be completed.
RECLAMATION OF THE LITTLE JOHNSON RESERVOIR AREA
As was done in the mining plan(Exhibit D), the reclamation plan for the Little Johnson
Reservoir area is presented as it was approved in that amendment. Because of the special
requirements, due to the presence of the groundwater remediation program, the plan for this area
is best kept as a separate section in this exhibit. Any editing of that plan is indicated in the same
way as it was done in the mining plan. That is, the original text is crossed out and any new text is
shown in capitals. After this plan is a section that discusses any particular needs to merge this
Daniels Sand Pit Amendment (2008) Exhibit E Page 3 of 22
