and modernized. New topsoiling specifications have been defined and a new projection of the
final vegetation composition on the floor of the pit is provided. The final land use has been
more specifically defined as wildlife habitat/green space. Although there is still some
uncertainty as to the final land use, at this time the wildlife habitat/green space land use
appears to be the most likely.
7. New final topographic configuration in the Little Johnson Reservoir is provided along with a
change in the final use of this land. Previously, it was thought a new, small reservoir would
be built in the Little Johnson area after mining. That has now been dropped leaving the final
topography a very gentle west facing slope that leads down to the bottom of the pit from the
back of the Little Johnson mining area.
8. Slopes around the north and northeast side of the pit east of Academy will have final slopes
of 4:1 above the Fountain Mutual Ditch and 3.5:1 to 4:1 below the ditch corridor. These will
be constructed in native material. Previously, the final slopes were to be 3:1. This will
improve revegetation potential, increase stability, reduce erosion potential, and provide a
more attractive blending with the ditch corridor and the new highway to the north.
9. The amount of final slope around the pit that is created by backfilling has been greatly
reduced and the method for constructing the remaining small amount of backfilled slope has
been changed.
General Overview of Daniels Sand Pit#2 Amendment(2008) Page 2 of 2
