Resumption of operation is unlikely to occur anytime in the near future based upon current
market conditions and competition from local existing coal mines. Twentymile Coal anticipates significant
reclamation to occur at the facility in the near future, and the possible sale of portions of the property is
currently being examined. Some background on the TC history for the site is provided below.
The site was closed in 1995, and was later placed under TC following CDRMS approval of TRO1-32 in 2001.
Appendix D is attached, which provides water monitoring requirements from the current TC Plan, which was
first developed by CDRMS (Tom Kaldenback) in 2001.
The site was subsequently removed from TC during the second quarter of 2006 (under Janet Binns), because a
bond release application was also being contemplated for the Utah Tract and Williams Fork Strip Pit portions of
the mine property. In 2013 (under Zach Truillo), when it appeared there would be no immediate activities
(reclamation, etc.) on the property, TC was re -implemented (see attached 2013 documentation).
As discussed in the 2013 request for TC status, Twentymile Coal anticipated some reclamation of old belt lines
and possibly other structures Some reclamation of the belt lines is being implemented during this week.
CDRMS will be notified in advance of proposed back filling, re -vegetation, environmental monitoring,
underground opening closures, and water treatment activities. The full extent and timing of future reclamation
has not yet been determined, however CDRMS will be notified of the extent and timing as soon as possible.
After you have opportunity to review the accompanying information, please feel free to contact me with any
questions or to discuss submittal materials or related matters.
