r
C)
Transit Mix Concrete Co. RPM,Inc.
Technical Revision
Wash Fines Disposal Facility (Pond)
Daniels Sand Pit#2
Continental Materials Corporation
Permit No. M1973-007SG
Submitted: 10/24/2016
Continental Materials Corporation(CMC), the permittee for the Daniels Sand Pit #2, is located at
225 West Wacker Drive, Suite 1800, Chicago, Illinois 60606. CMC's phone number is (312)
541-7200. The Operation is managed by Transit Mix Concrete Co. (TMCC) and is located at
444 East Costilla, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903. TMCC's phone number is (719) 475-
0700.
The Operator desires to construct a new processing wash fines disposal facility(Pond) in its
Daniels Sand Pit #2. The exact location is in the South area of the East Pit and north and east of
the existing processing wash fines pond. This location is shown on the site photograph, Exhibit
1. The site construction Map, M-1 shows the location of the embankment for containment of the
processing plant wash fines. The reason for the TR is to replace the existing wash fines disposal
pond which is nearing its designed capacity. It is the Operator's desire to begin construction as
soon as possible in order to take advantage of the dry fall weather.
The proposed construction will occur in an area of the Operation which has been previously
mined and will not result in any new disturbance or alterations to the already approved permit
boundary. In addition, the existing reclamation bond should be adequate. The new pond will
receive wash fines similar to the West Pit sediment pond and the existing wash fines pond. The
end result is that the excavation created by mining will be partially filled with wash fines and
reduce the existing highwalls in this portion of the mining operation. As such, the existing areas
in need of backfilling or grading within the footprint of the new pond area will diminish with
each day of use. The remaining reclamation, soil amendments and seeding will be identical as to
the reclamation for the previous two wash fines ponds. In addition, the post mining land use will
also be identical to the existing two wash fines ponds, i.e. wild life habitat.
3
