Mr. Jack Henris
October 19 2016
Page 8
m:\min\tc1\_teller\m-1980-244 cc-v\am -11\m-80-244-am-11-2ndmaincomment2016-10-19r4combined.docx
57. Appendix 10, Drawing CCVSA11-6. There are some discrepancies in the channel details:
a. Details 2, 3 and 4 show channel and swale freeboard designs. The response is not
adequate. Pursuant to Rule 7.3.1(3), “Design capacities shall be sufficient to handle
the design storm event for the area”. A sufficient design includes freeboard to
compensate for the many unknown factors that could contribute to errors in the
predicted peak flow and/or deficiencies in construction of the conveyance structure.
If the stated traffic area is graded to drain to the swale, is wide enough and has
sufficient fall to prevent local ponding from pushing flows outside the “ChiTunPond
Basin” into the “ChiTunBypass Basin” channel, then that needs to be explained and
shown in Details 2, 3 and 4. Otherwise, freeboard must be included in the design.
b. The drawing has section callouts A, B and C. The response is adequate. However,
for future reference, standard drawing practice is to have section and detail callouts
match the section or detail designator in order to avoid just such confusion.
c. There is a reference to the “Primary Drainage Channel on Back Side of Shop – 2”W
x 8” Deep”. The response is adequate. However, for future reference, standard
drawing practice is to have section and detail callouts match the section or detail
designator in order to avoid just such confusion.
d. There is a reference to the “Ditch along Road, 6” Deep x 24” Wide”. The response
is adequate. However, for future reference, standard drawing practice is to have
section and detail callouts match the section or detail designator in order to avoid
just such confusion.
58. Appendix 10, Drawing CCVSA11-7. The… runoff was estimated using SCS Curve
numbers. The response is adequate.
59. Appendix 10, Drawing CCVSA11-9. There is no corresponding “Y” section shown on the
drawing.
a. Why is the cut/fill for section X not shown in the profile? The response is adequate.
b. Where is the corresponding Y section/profile for EMP21A? The response is
adequate.
Appendix 10, Design Report for Storm Water Management at the Chicago Tunnel Site
60. Narrative Description of Mining Activities, p. 1. CC&V is responsible for stormwater
management. The response is adequate.
61. Narrative Description of Mining Activities, p. 2. Please clarify whether any measurable or
reported discharge has occurred from the Chicago Tunnel since it was reopened. The
response is adequate.
62. Methodology and Basin Descriptions, p. 4. The bulleted summary of the various basins
states exceedingly large times of concentration. The response is adequate.
