0
As the permit is approved by the Division,no topsoil or any other material will be
replaced at the Neilson Pit during the reclamation process.
4. Will fertilizers be used?
Response:No fertilizers will be used in the reclamation process.
5. Please be aware thatfor all methods other than drill seeding the seeding rate will be
doubled, in this case you have chosen broadcast.
Response: Please see response to Item 6 and Item 7.
6. Is the 10 lbs of PLS/AC the total amount to be broadcast seeded? Or is that per
species?Or the drill seed rate and 20 lbs PLS/AC will be used for broadcast seeding?
Response: The 10 lbs. PLS/AC referred to in the permit is the drill seed rate. As a
drill will not be utilized to reclaim this area,it is appropriate to assume that when the
area is broadcast seeded,20 lbs. PLS/AC of the seed mix will be applied.
7. Please clarify the lbs of PLS/AC of each species listed in your mix. Or the
composition of the mix and the total amount to be applied. Be sure to clarify if rates
are listed for broadcast or drill seed.
Response: As discussed in the response to Item 6, 10 lbs. PLS/AC refers to a drill
seed rate. Doubling this rate will result in 20 lbs. PLS/AC. Applying this rate will
result in 16 lbs.PLS/AC of Slender Wheatgrass, 2 lbs. PLS/AC of either Douglas or
Rubber Rabbitbrush, and 2 lbs.PLS/AC of Mountain Big Sagebrush being applied to
every acre of reclamation.
For further context, please consider the following information:
#of seeds/lb. for Mountain Big Sagebrush—2,500,000
#of seeds/lb. for Douglas Rabbitbrush—782,000
#of seeds/lb. for Rubber Rabbitbrush—400,000
#of seeds/lb. for Slender Wheatgrass— 159,000
8. Given that shrubs mature slowly reclamation may benefit from additional early seral
species (grasses and forbs)I.e. Indian ricegrass, crested wheatgrass, galleta, scarlet
globemallow, curlycup gumweed.
Response: Slender wheatgrass is being utilized to provide initial stabilization of the
area while the shrub species establish. Based on the native vegetation of the
surrounding area, this is an appropriate species, designed to favor the reestablishment
of a sagebrush/rabbitbrush dominated plant community that is found at the Neilson
Pit.
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER
A Touchstone EnereCooperative
