9. Comments: _The project was conducted under a cultural resource use permit authorized by the
Colorado Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The field work authorization was issued by Timothy J.
Wilson, Associate Area Manager on December 9, 2014
II. DESCRIPTION OF UNDERTAKING / PROJECT

12. Nature of the Anticipated Disturbance: Coal Mine haul road
13. Comments: _The Class III inventory did not result in the location of any cultural resources. The site
density in the general area is low. Typically sites documented in the area are limited to isolated finds
or open lithic surface scatters, open camps or historic sites. Eligible prehistoric open camp sites are
generally found in eolian sand deposits. Several types of sand deposits present favorable conditions
for preserving intact cultural deposits including stabilized sand which has accumulated gradually
over time. Stabilized sand deposits in Northwestern Colorado contain evidence of prehistoric
occupations dating from the Paleoindian to Late Prehistoric periods. However, given the mobile
nature of most sand deposits, it is not uncommon to have mixed cultural occupations on the same
