Revised Stage 2 Reclamation Backfill Volume Calculations <br />The estimated volume of material needed to backfill Stage 2 to an <br />elevation three (3) feet below its pre -mining elevation equals 542,000 cubic <br />yards calculated as follows: <br />(12 acres x 43560 square feet per acre x a depth of 21 feet divided by 27 <br />equals 406,500 cubic yards) plus (4 acres of overburden at 6 feet depth <br />equals 38,720 cubic yards) equals a total of 445,220 cubic yards of backfill <br />needed for Stage 2. <br />Sources of backfill include: <br />1. Stage 2 overburden and topsoil backfill equals 155,000 cubic yards <br />calculated as follows: <br />(16 acres x 43560 square feet x 6 feet of overburden divided by 27 <br />equals 155,000 cubic yards). <br />This material will be stockpiled on Stage 2 and can be placed as <br />backfill using a dozer. <br />2. The backfill balance of 290,220 cubic yards for Stage 2 will come <br />from overburden and topsoil excavated, hauled and placed by scraper <br />from Stages 3 and 4.
