Date: September 16,2016
FILE NO. M-2011-013
OPERATOR: Telluride Stone Company, Inc.
SITE NAME: Airport Pit
Permittee Representative: Karen Moore
COLORADO DIVISION
TECHNICAL REVISION APPLICATION
Topic: Sediment Control
Problem: The North East corner of the permitted mine area sloped downward to the
extent that storm water and snow melt caused erosion to and beyond the permitted
boundary.
Corrective Action: To extend the existing Reclaimed Berm (in green on the Mining
Plan map) to just inside the North East corner and wrap the new berm around the East
side where it would join the sloped Eastern Mine Boundary.
This new berm consists of scrap rock, rock, overburden and topsoil. It's approximately
10 feet in height. The application of the topsoil will enable us to mulch, seed and reclaim
the new berm in October. The outside slope will be contoured to match the existing
berm. There has not been any evidence of erosion on the outside slope of the existing
berm so we do not anticipate any erosion of the outside slope of the new berm.
The new berm will sufficiently catch the storm water and snow melt, preventing any
further erosion. As you can see, I've included a photo that shows sediment and puddles
of storm water from the summer rains. These puddles are just inside the new berm. You
can also see that the area on the inside of the new berm is relatively flat. We have
observed that any storm water that has collected in this area drains and evaporates
sufficiently to not cause any further problems with erosion.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
a n Moore
Telluride Stone Company, Inc.
970-728-6201
