Spring 2016 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mininq Areas
4.3 Traverse C -C'
Traverse C -C' originates in the Deer Creek drainage adjacent to the lower stock pond (P74) and
proceeds eastward, trending north and then south, over mined E -seam Longwall Panels E2, E3,
E4, and E5 (see Map 1). E -seam overburden depths along this traverse vary from 450 feet in the
Deer Creek drainage to more than 900 feet over mined E -seam Longwall Panel E5.
Numerous MVB pads have been historically accessible from this traverse including E3-6, E3-12,
E3-17.5, E3-21, E3-25, E4-15, E4-16, E4-17, and E4-18 over mined E -seam Longwall Panels E3
and E4. Our spring 2016 field visit found the pads for MVB E3-12, E3-17.5, E3-21, and E4-17
had all been reclaimed.
Previous reported observations along this traverse included a small subsidence crack in the cut
slope at the beginning of this traverse, a slump on the downslope side of the drill road above the
Deer Creek valley, subsidence cracks on the E4-16 MVB pad, and cracks in the road near, and on,
the E5-17 MVB pad. No new subsidence features were observed at these locations. Of note was
the inability to identify the small crack in the cut slope at the beginning of the traverse and the
inability to identify the cracks previously observed in the road near the E5-17 MVB pad. All other
previously observed subsidence features had continued presence but exhibited continued signs of
weathering and healing.
Photograph from east- and west -facing overview locations were obtained as in previous visits.
Photographic comparisons to previous images found no substantive differences.
4.4 Traverse D -D'
This traverse originates along the south side of the Dry Fork Road (Traverse A -A') and proceeds
southward up Poison Gulch (drainage east of Deer Creek) to a location above the headgate entries
above unmined E -seam Longwall Panel E7. This traverse crosses mined portions of E -seam
Longwall Panels E3, E4, and E5, as well as unmined portions of E -seam Longwall Panels E6 and
E7 (see Map 1). The E -seam overburden depth along this traverse varies from slightly less than
700 feet to almost 900 feet.
831-032.798 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 12
August 2016
