CAT 740 haul
trucks hauled DCF from the stockpile to the Phase 1 VLF. The DCF was placed in a 2-foot lift on
previously approved geomembrane by low ground pressure CAT dozers. Haul routes consisted
of 4-foot lifts that will be spread into 2-foot lifts at a later date. Ames' laborers were present
during placement to assist in removing debris/sandbags, installing high volume solution
collection piping, and ensuring that the lift thickness was correct. A NewFields' representative
constantly monitored the DCF placement.
1.7 Riprap
No work performed during this reporting period.
2.0 GEOSYNTHETICS
2.1 Geogrid
Eighty eight rolls of geogrid were delivered and inventoried by NewFields personnel on
Tuesday,July 5, 2016.
2.2 Geomembrane Installation
Geomembrane installation continued within the Phase 1 SGVLF in the areas shown on Figure 3.
Approximately 80,466 square feet (P-1951 to P-1979) of 80 mil LLDPE (double sided texture)
was deployed. Subgrade was inspected and approved by NewFields and ECA representatives
prior to geomembrane deployment. Approximately 4,366 linear feet of seam was fusion welded
using two fusion welding machine/operator combinations. Eight destructive testing samples
were marked during fusion seaming. Approximately 278 linear feet of seam was extrusion
welded using one extrusion welding machine/operator combinations. One destructive testing
sample was marked during extrusion seaming. All destructive tests performed met project
specifications. Non-destructive testing was performed for fusion welded seams. Repairs were
performed using the extrusion welding method for all marked defects. Vacuum testing was
performed for all extrusion welded seams and repairs.
2.3 Anchor Trench
Approximately 450 feet of interim anchor trench was excavated along the Phase 1 9,850-foot
bench in accordance with design drawings and project technical specifications.
Anchor trench backfill was performed using an skid steer, a vibratory plate compactor and
laborers.
