SECTION 3123 00
EARTHWORK
PART 1- GENERAL
1.1 SCOPE OF WORK
A. This Section includes all earthwork to construct the low permeability liner and placement of
embankment fills to construct final slopes to the established lines and grades at the locations shown on
the Contract Drawings and as directed by the Engineer. This specification does not cover temporary
earthwork including cuts and fills constructed to create the working pad.
1.2 DEFINITIONS
A. Relative Compaction: "Relative compaction" is defined as the ratio,in percent,of the as-compacted
field dry density to the laboratory maximum dry density as determined by ASTM D 698.Corrections for
oversize material may be applied to either the as-compacted field dry density or the maximum dry
density,as determined by the Engineer.
B. Optimum Moisture Content: "Optimum moisture content"shall be determined by the ASTM D 698 to
determine the maximum dry density for relative compaction. Field moisture content shall be
determined on the basis of the fraction passing the 3/4-inch sieve.
C. Fines:"Fines"shall be that material which passes the No.200 sieve as determined by ASTM D 1140.
D. Engineer:The Engineer is defined as the representative of Brierley Associates designated to perform
construction inspection services.
E. Quality Control Technician:The Quality Control Technician is defined as that representative of Brierley
Associates or their subconsultant Martinez Associates designated to perform quality control testing as
approved by the Engineer.
F. Contractor:The Contractor is Hall-Irwin Corporation and their subcontractor.
1.3 TESTING
A. All testing, including field and laboratory services, will be completed by the Quality Control Technician.
1.4 CODES,ORDINANCES,AND STATUTES
A. The Contractor shall be familiar with, and comply with, all applicable codes, ordinances, statutes, and
bear sole responsibility for the penalties imposed for noncompliance.
1.5 TOLERANCES
A. All material limits shall be constructed within a tolerance of 0.1 foot except where dimensions or grades
are shown or specified as minimum. All grading shall be performed to maintain slopes as shown.
Loloff Slurry Wall 3123 00-1
