Fish Creek Soil Investigation <br />C1--41 to 48 inches; pale brown (lOYR 6/3) gravelly sandy loam, dazk brown (1 OYR 4/3) moist; <br />single grain or massive; loose, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; few fine roots; slightly acid <br />(pH 6.4); cleaz wavy boundary. (0 to 7 inches thick) <br />C2--48 to 60 inches; same as above horizon except very gravelly and weakly consolidated. <br />TYPE LOCATION: Wasatch County, Utah; about 12 miles east of Heber; on a plateau between <br />Lake Creek and the Provo River; 1.75 air line miles north of Witts Lake; 1,780 feet east and 210 <br />feet south of northwest corner, sec. 10, T. 4 S., R. 6 E. <br />RANGE IN CHARACTERISTICS: <br />Soil moisture regime: udic bordering on xeric. <br />Mean annual soil temperature: 36 to 42 degrees F. <br />Mean summer soil temperature: 52 to 58 degrees F. <br />Depth to the base of the azgillic horizon: 30 to 55 inches <br />Thickness of the mollic epipedon: 16 to 42 inches <br />Particle-size control section: <br />Clay content: 18 to 35 percent <br />Rock fragment content: 0 to 20 percent <br />A horizon: <br />Value: 3 to 5 dry, 2 or 3 moist <br />Chroma: 1 to 3, dry and moist <br />• Reaction: slightly acid or neutral <br />Bt horizon: <br />Hue: 7.SYR or l OYR <br />Value: 3 to 6 dry, 2 to 5 moist <br />Chroma: 1 to 4, dry and moist <br />Texture: sandy clay loam, cobbly clay loam, clay loam, loam <br />Clay content: 20 to 35 percent <br />Rock fragments: 0 to 20 percent that are gravel, cobble or stone size <br />Reaction: slightly acid or neutral <br />C horizon: <br />Value: 5 or 6 dry, 4 or 5 moist <br />Chroma: 2 to 4, dry and moist <br />Texture: sandy loam or sandy clay loam, including gravelly and very gravelly modifiers; loam or <br />clay loam, including cobbly and very cobbly modifiers <br />Reaction: slightly acid to slightly alkaline <br />COMPETING SERIES: These are the Bavdark, Crovdon, Davtone, Decross, Dranburn, <br />Haaenbarth, Lamphier, Millerlake and Senchert series. <br />Other soils that may be competitors when their classification is updated aze: Bachus, Benteen, <br />• Cambern, Crystalbutte, Dehana, Demast, Dranvon, Echmoor, Gordo, Southmount, Sguawval, <br />Stubbs, Thulepah, Vadnais, and Winu series. <br />Habitat Management, Inc.
