During revegetation success monitoring, the various
disturbance areas were compared to the two reference areas
shown on Exhibit 49. Comparisons may be on an acreage -
weighted basis at the discretion of the Operator. Greasewood
zones were compared to the 1999 Greasewood reference
area presented in Appendix 10-4. Shadscale zones will be
compared to the Shadscale reference area located near the
Roadside South Portal. This reference area has variable
slope and aspect so as to serve as a reference area for all of
the reclaimed Shadscale zones.
The separation between Greasewood and Shadscale zones is
primarily related to slope and elevation. These separations
were not marked prior to disturbance for most of the mine site,
but generally, low elevations with little or no slope are
Greasewood zones. The construction of the refuse piles
covers areas that were once Greasewood vegetation type.
Slopes and uplands above the refuse piles were the
Shadscale vegetation type. Portions of the bottom land along
Coal Canyon below the toe of the refuse piles were evaluated
against the 1999 Greasewood reference area. This included
portions of the Cameo Borrow Areas (CBA) 1 & 2 and portions
of Roadside North Portals (RSN) areas below approximately
4810' elevation. The upper portions of CBA 1, Topsoil
Stockpiles 5, 6 and RSN were evaluated against the
Shadscale reference area.
TR -67 14-25 Rev. 01/16
