General
1. All concrete shall be ready-mixed concrete manufactured and delivered in
accordance with the requirements of ASTM C94,Option A. The Contractor
shall assume the responsibility for the design of the concrete mix. Design
of the concrete mix to fulfill job requirements shall comply with ACI 301
and may be done either on the basis of previous field experience, existing
trial mixtures or new trial mixtures. Proportioning of the new concrete mix
g shall not be done based on empirical data. The design of the concrete mix
shall be in accordance with ACI 211.1 to attain the properties of strength,
slump, entrained air, and water-cement ratio in conformance with the
following requirements.
B. Proportioning
t 1. The concrete mix design shall have the following properties:
Mix Parameter: Value
Slump: 4 inches+- I-inch(in accordance with ACI 301)
Maximum Coarse Aggregate Size: 3/4-inch
Coarse Aggregate Gradation: ASTM C33,Size No.67
Required Percent Range Air 5-8 /o o
Entrainment:
Maximum Water/Cement Ratio 0.48
by weight:
Design Strength(28 days): 6,000 psi
2. The proportion of materials shall be selected to produce the proper
r placeability, pumpability, durability, strength and other required properties.
Proportions shall be such as to produce a mixture which will work easily
into the corners and angles of the forms and around reinforcement.
3. The determination of the water-cement ratio to attain the required strength
and/or durability shall be in accordance with AC1 301 and with ACI 211.1.
t
C. Correction of Proportions
1. Prior to concreting operations, the Contractor shall establish minimum
standards of proportions for all the types of concrete to be used on the
LL project. Concrete operations shall proceed with these mix designs, but if at
any time the tests of job concrete indicate failure to meet the strength,
114-910345 CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION
Climax CAVR Shaft Closure Project 03 30 00 SPE-11
