A sample of Soil Liner Fill (NFSLF-14-C) was collected from the Dump 1 Processing Plant,
and record samples were collected for Structural Fill (NFSF-1-R and NFSF-2-R).
5.0 MEETINGS AND COMMUNICATIONS
NewFields personnel attended the weekly Contractor Planning Meeting (May 3, 2016), weekly
Contractor Safety Meeting (May 5, 2016), Ames daily safety meetings and NewFields daily
safety meetings.
6.0 MISCELLANEOUS, ISSUES AND CONCERNS
NewFields had Ames create a structural fill test pad so that a method specification for
compaction could be developed for an excavator mounted slope packer. A one foot thick test
pad of structural fill material was placed in one lift on flat ground. Initial survey of the pad was
taken at four control points (delineated by red X's). A CAT 330 excavator equipped with the
slope packer made two passes over the test pad. Survey was taken at the four control points in
order to measure the settlement. The process was repeated until no more settlement could be
measured in the fill. The results from the test are presented in the table below:
Number of Deflection
Passes 1 2 3 4
2 -0.12 -0.05 -0.12 -0.04
4 -0.02 -0.03 -0.03 -0.05
6 -0.01 +0.04 +0.10 +0.06
The test concluded that a minimum of four passes is required to achieve compaction.
Page 4
