WATER RESOURCES
CORTEZ PIT - NIELSONS, INC.
The Cortez Pit is a completely dry source of sand and gravel. the
operation is one of quarry work and is located approximately one hun-
dred (100) feet in elevation above McElmo Creek. Material mined is
sandstone and no surface or ground water is present. Because no water
will be discharged into the creek, a permit is not required by the
Colorado Department of Health (see attached letter, dated July 22,
1976).
No irrigation ditches or water wells are in the adjacent area, and
it is expected that the operation will in no way affect the area's
water resources.
The only requirement for water will be for dust abatement on the crush-
er. This requirement will be met by obtaining water at Nielsons' shop
which is located just south of the pit site.
