Following are the responses to your comments:
Comment 1, on Mining Plan(Exhibit C) - requires revisions to Exhibit C to show total area of
affected land.
Response- Page 4 of the project report has a table of proposed disturbed area which includes the
existing roads, the staging area, and the mine area. These areas are labeled on the map and the
table has been added to the map for clarification. The to soil borrow area has been added to the
map and the disturbed area acreage. Y4 p) 4 , ,mot►- Z,t;
Comment 2, related to Rule 6.4.4(d) requiring the size of area(s)to worked at one time. "Y
Response-The maximum extent to be worked at one time would be the total area of the phase
of mining in progress during a particular phase. For instance, Phase I could conceivably involve
working an area up to 55.5 acres. The initial area proposed for terracing is about 10.7 acres as u
shown on exhibit F. It is unlikely; however, that the entire phase area will be worked at one t
time, because it is unlikely that desirable rock exists over the entire area. The flagstone is
covered in many places by a thin veneer of rubble and vegetation making it difficult to determine
the nature of the bedrock. It is not economical or customary to do exploration and resource Q
delineation for this type of mining, thus, the extent of desirable rock is generally unknown untiwell into the mining of an area. As we discussed on the telephone, the plan is to provide 71Z f A
individual maps for each of the proposed phases of mining prior to the start of that phase. The
operator wishes to bond reclamation for I phase at a time and will notify the Division of any
major changes to the mine plan due to conditions discovered during the mining operation.
Comment 3, related to topsoil depth and borrow area. '`L •m
Response - The plan is to replace topsoil on areas where less than 2 inches of soil remains after
mining is completed. The plan shows a series of 12 terraces which will cover approximately
10.7 acres of land. This is based on the area outlined on the Exhibit F plan. The actual flat
surface area of the terraces will be approximately 80% of the 10.7 acres or about 8.5 acres(this
area is based on the terrace cross section provided on Exhibit F). The replacement soil will be
owl
