1. PROCEDURES AND SUMMARY OF THE REVIEW PROCESS
Bowie Resources, LLC (BRL) applied for partial bond release under the Colorado Surface Coal
Mining and Reclamation Act following reclamation of the Bowie No. 1 Mine. The mine is located
in Delta County, in all or portions of the following:

Reclamation History of Bond Release Area
The total permit area of the Bowie No. 1 Mine is presently 5,035.20 acres. The total approved
disturbed acreage of the Bowie No. 1 Mine is 156.10 acres and the total approved affected area is
2,999.00 acres. The Division has processed four previous bond release applications for the Bowie
No. 1 Mine (SL -01, SL -02, SL -03, and SL -04).
BRL bond release application SL -01 for the Bowie No. 1 Mine was submitted March 19, 2001.
Bond release SL -01 requested Phase I bond release on 14.9 disturbed acres associated with the West
Mine Portal and fill and 2.0 disturbed area acres associated with the fan site and access road. The
Division received a request for withdraw of the SL -01 application on July 1, 2002 and the Division
approved the withdraw request on July 10, 2002.
BRL bond release application SL -02 for the Bowie No. 1 Mine was submitted September 26, 2002
and found complete on November 18, 2002. Bond release SL -02 initially requested Phase I bond
