Mr. Erickson
April, 18, 2016
Page 3
road which, in our opinion, already has too much heavy truck traffic from the other four quarries
that are just down the road. These other quarries are nowhere near their production capacity.
Transit Mix has acknowledged this and said quite frankly that opening a this proposed quarry
isn't about need, but about profit. It is rare to travel down Hwy 115 and not see wildlife that has
been struck and killed by traffic. There is also an argument for an increase in the number of
fatalities on this Hwy 115. The speed limit is 60mph; the road has many curves and changes in
elevation. The residents along this road have to turn onto the highway quickly from a minor road
and come up to speed quickly due to the volume of traffic we already have on this road. Increase
heavy truck traffic so substantially will no doubt result in more difficulty and danger upon
entering the road, and undoubtedly, more accidents and fatalities.
One community, Eagles Nest, would be cut off from access to their homes, and to the
Highway, as well as from emergency services, multiple times during each week due to blasting.
The Highway 115 community, or group of small communities, are comprised of strictly custom-
built homes, with a large population of retired people.
In summary; we object to the approval of Mining permit application M2016010 due to
negative and egregious damage to the environment, wildlife, our health, safety, and our way of
life.
Please accept this letter as a written confirmation of our concerns and our electronic
signatures as our legal signatures.
Sincerely,
Victoria Spengler Wekamp
Douglas Lee Wekamp
