BRIERLEY DAILY FIELD REPORT ,
ASSOCIATES
Crecting ipoce Underground
Project Hokestra-North Slurry Wall Report No. 4
Location Firestone, CO Date Monday, April 29, 2013 ,
Client Hall-Irwin Page 3 of 4
Contractor Hall-Irwin File No. 112206-000
Weather Sunny Temperature Mild(60°-75°) '
3. Performed quality control testing on fresh slurry, trench slurry, and soil-bentonite backfill.
4. Slurry level did not drop below 2ft of surface grade during excavation. '
5. The de-sanding machine was not in operation during this shift.
6. The Komatsu DX65 dozer used in the backfilling operation was not working during this shift, and is ,
currently under maintenance for an overheating problem.
7. Fresh slurry was not within project specifications for unit weight and marsh funnel time during the AM '
testing. Ruben with Hall-Irwin was immediately notified of the test results. Additional bentonite was
added into the slurry pond. A re-test of fresh slurry in the PM was not within project specifications for
marsh funnel time, but had a unit weight that was acceptable. Ruben was notified of the test results. '
8. In-trench slurry was only tested in the PM only because the slurry pond pump was not working correctly
during the AM. Hall-Irwin had to switch to a different pump, and as a result excavation during the AM
was minimal. A sample at key depth was unable to be collected during the AM. '
9. HI is keeping the toe of the backfill slope within 30t5 feet of the excavation to allow them to clean out
the key and help prevent sand settling in the slurry wall key. '
10.
