March 11, 2016
COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Bryan Lees
Colorado Calumet Co., Inc.
P.O. Box 1169
Golden, CO 80402
RE: Detroit City Mine; DRMS File No. P-2016-002; Notice of Deficiencies
Dear Mr. Lees,
On February 11, 2016, the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) received the
Notice of Intent to Conduct Prospecting (NOI) Application for the Detroit City Mine, File No. P-
2016-002. Our review indicates the Modification Application contains deficiencies as defined
by Rule 5.1.3 of the Mineral Rules and Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
Board for Hard Rock, Metal, and Designated Mining Operations. The Division requires the
information described below before we can approve the NOI Application.
1. Please provide the approximate elevation of the site as required under the General
Description section of Form 1 and Form 2.
2. The Applicant has stated a 30" culvert will be installed on the access road at a point where it
intersects an intermittent drainage. In addition, the Applicant has stated that disturbance
associated with the installation of the culvert crossing will be revegetated. Given the short
duration of the prospecting season in this area, it is highly unlikely vegetation will be
established before the first season of prospecting is complete. Please describe what additional
stormwater controls will be used to ensure topsoil and sediment is not washed down the
drainage.
3. Please specify the depth of material to be placed over the top of the culvert. A minimum of 1'
of material should be placed on top of the culvert to ensure that it is not crushed when
equipment crosses this portion of the road.
4. The Applicant has indicated the access road will be improved through regrading. Please
provide additional detail on the improvements to be made to the access road. What is the
approximate current grade of the road and what will the final grade be? Will the road be
widened as a result of grading?
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http://mining.state.co.us
John W.
