52.04 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SURFACE OR UNDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES --
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INFORMATION ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESOIIRCES.
2.04,8 Climatological Information.
(1) Climatic Characteristics of the North Fork Valley (Cont'd.)
(b) and (c) (Cont'd.)
The mean annual temperature at Paonia of 49.0° F is ap-
proximately 1.5° F. lower than that at Delta. This is
in Line with the average lapse rate of 3-4° F./1000
feet in most mid-latitude mountainous regions. The
statistics of minimuta air temperatures (mean, extremes,
number of days with minimian temperature less than stat-
ed values) indicate that the two stations are very
alike in this parameter. From these statistics, it may
be concluded that [he cold air drainage occurs through-
out the valley. (See Tables 2.04-14, 15, and 16, Cli-
matology Appendix, Volume 9).
A weather monitoring station was located at the Colora-
do Westmoreland railroad wge, but was dismantled in
1979. This unit was a self-contained complete system,
compact in overall size and weigh[ with the ability to
sense and simultaneously record three important clima-
tological parameters - wind direction, wind speed, and
air temperature. See Figures 2.04-9 and 2.04-10 in the
Climatology Appendix, Volume 9.
Presently, precipitation data are gathered at one moni-
toring station, The Fan Level Raingauge is located, as
its name indicates, on the fan level of the Orchard
Valley Mine. This precipitation monitoring station
consists of a 12-inch Dual ?raverse raingauge from the
Belfort Instrument Company of Baltimore, Maryland.
Data are recorded nn an 8-day strip chart, which is
fastened to a recording dr~ue and propelled by a clock
timer. Charts are removed and clean charts replaced
every seven days. Precipitation data are interpreted
from the raingauge char[.s and are tabulated and
graphed. Refer [o the Climatology Appendix in Volime 9
for specific precipitation data.
The train loadout raingauge was formerly located near
CWI's train loadout building 2nd Stale Highway 133.
This station was a standar.~E graduated cylinder rain-
gauge which was monitored mince each day. Data from
this station may also be foauid in [he Climatology Ap-
pendix.
Revised 08/01/84
Revised 02/27/86
Revised 10/01/87
62
