52.04 APPLICATION FOR PERMIT FOR SIIRFACE OR IINDERGROUND MINING ACTIVITIES --
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR INFORMATION ON ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES.
•
2.04.7 Hydrology Description.
(1) (b) (Cont'd.)
differentiated from the single bedrock spring by lower
conductivity and T.D.S. The lower values suggest
shorter residence time in the regolith (refer to Hy-
drology Data in Volume 4),
The area around the Orchard Valley West Mine portal is
similar in characteristics to the Orchard Valley Mine.
Within the East Roatcap Creek bottom, localized depos-
its of colluvial material are present. The areas of
colluvial/alluvial sediments are very limited in ex-
tent. No area around the Orchard Valley West Mine site
can be classified as an alluvial valley floor as it
does not meet the requirements of irrigation, topo-
graphic, or geologic conditions.
There are no known uses of groundwater in the area of
the Orchard Valley k'est Mine. Water rights are for
surface drainage and may be found in the Water Replace-
ment Appendix in Volume 5.
• Riparian vegetation occurs along the banks of East
Roatcap Creek. A few willows, sedges, and other grass-
es and shrubby riparian vegetation extend from the
stream bank onto the colluvial/alluvial deposits locat-
ed in East Roatcap Creek. They are not extensive, but
are of high value.
Groundwater occurrences within the Mesa Verde formation
have been analyzed using the piezometer data gathered
for the Orchard Valley West Mine site area. That data
shows that there is groundwater in the coal seam, but,
as described in the Hydro-Geo, Inc. study, should not
be of any significant influence to the hydrologic re-
gime.
Springs and seeps are scattered throughout the area of
the new Orchard Valley West Mine. Refer to the Hydro-
Geo, Inc. report in Voliane 4 for more specific informa-
tion on the hydrology of the Orchard Valley West area.
Added 12/26/84
. Added 10/12/86
Revised 10/12/86
Revised 10/01/87
41
