Refer to the "Spring
27" data in the Stevens C;Lrlch GYoundwater Anrr»rriix in Volume 4.
The areas of colluvial/alluvial sediments in the Stevens Gulch
aril Fist Roatcap Creeks are between 500 and 1000 feet above the
mined coal seam and will be covered by a Subsidence Control Plan
consisting of limited extraction and permanent pillars (refer to
Section 2.05.6 (6) (e) (iv). In addition, all
colluvial/alluvial deposits with overburden thicialesses of less
than 1000 feet will be covered by shallow well monitoring
systems. Locations of the shallow monitoring wells are shown on
Map No. 4-1 and the monitoring system is discus_secl in the
Groura3water Monitoring Section 2.05.6, page 121.
.~, The known uses of water are: Irxlustrial - Stevens Gulch and the
train loadout; Domestic - Long IIraw and partial amount of
colluvial sources; Agricultural - major amount of colluvial
sources and one Mesaverde spring. The Water Riots
Investigation presented in the Water Replacement Appendix,
Volume 5, describes in detail ownership and recorded use of all
water rights within and adjacent to the permit area.
Riparian vegetation principally occ,~urs along banks of the North
Fork and the inmiediate streambanks of West Roatcap Creek, Fast
Roatcap Creek, Stevens Gulch, and Terror Creek as shown on Map
No. 9A-1. A few willows, sedges, and other grasses and shrubby
riparian vegetation extend from the streambank onto the
colluvial/alluvial deposits located on Stevens Gulch and East
Roatcap Creek, but are not extensive nor high value riparian
habitats. As discussed in Section 2.04.10 and 2.04.11, shallow
pond habitat consisting of
,~.
TR 93-24 Revised 12/10/93
32
