County: Garfield
Cultural Resources Project Number: BLM GJFO CRIR 1112-09
NEPA Number: DO[-BLM-CO-130-0002-EA
SHPO Report Number: GF.LM.R534
5GF4692 is an historic road that does not show on any GLO or USGS maps. The road, recorded in its
entirety, is on a steep hillside above Munger Canyon. There were no historic artifacts that indicate the
period of use and there are no features in this segment. It is unknown what the purpose of the road is
although it is possible the road was created to access the upper end of private land on the hillside. The
ephemeral nature of the road where it was recorded suggests a short period of use and a long period of
abandonment. The segment recorded within the project lacks information potential and does not meet
criteria a -d. It is determined as not contributing for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places
(NRNP). The coal lease is for a mine that utilizes the long wall method of underground mining and
subsidence in this section of the lease is the only potential surface disturbance and is unlikely. No further
work is recommended.
This undertaking does not exceed any of the review thresholds listed in Part VIII (C) (2) of the Protocol,
and there will be no historic properties affected. Attached is a copy of the Cultural Resource Survey
Management Information Form with the BLM's determinations of eligibility. The results of the GRI
survey and supporting documentation for GJFO CRIR 1112-09 discussing eligibility are enclosed along
with a disc with project shapefiles and documents.
BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT.
