sectional width of eight feet at the base of the channel, as measured perpendicular to
the fall of the channel.
Depth to bedrock has been observed to be variable. For bidding purposes, assume an
average excavation depth of three feet (3').
Channel side slopes from the ground surface to the exposed bedrock will be no steeper
than 21-1: 1V.
Excavated dirt will be placed at the westerly margin of the channel beyond the crest of
the ditch. The excavated dirt will be placed so that it blends with adjacent topography,
but in no instance will any fill slope be steeper than 3H :1 V.
Three (3) small feeder channels convey water to Ditch 8 from the west. These feeder
channels will be deepened so that, at their respective confluences with Ditch 8, the
elevation of the base of each feeder channel is identical to the elevation of the base of
Ditch 8 at that location. The feeder channels will be excavated so that the gradient of
each channel base as measured from the point of confluence with Ditch 8 upstream is
not steeper than 5H : 1 V.
The base of the feeder channels must be flat in cross section from side to side. The
base of each feeder channel will four feet (4') wide; side slopes will not exceed 2H : 1V.
Excavated material will be placed at the crest of the feeder channels on the south side of
each.
Excavation will begin at the top of Ditch 8, and proceed downhill. All excavation will be
conducted from the east side of Ditch 8. This working surface, and all dirt generated by
excavation will be roughened simultaneously with the excavation work as described in Task 5,
Revegetation.
No equipment will be allowed to traverse any area following completion of surface roughening at
that location.
Measurement and Payment
Measurement for payment will be made by measuring the total length of channel excavated,
including that of the feeder channels to the nearest lineal foot. Payment will be made at the unit
price bid under Item 2 of the Bid Schedule. Payment for this task at the unit price established at
Item 2 of the Bid Schedule will be considered full compensation for all equipment, fuel, labor
and other items both necessary and incidental to accomplishing deepening and widening of
Ditch 8 and deepening of the feeder channels as described in this task. Payment will be made
as this task is completed and approved by Project Manager.
Task 3. Provide and Place Rip Rap
Rip rap materials will be placed within Ditch 8 and three (3) feeder channels where specified by
Project Manager.
Typically, a rip rap section will be placed on twenty five feet (25') centers for the length of the
Ditch 8. Each rip rap section will consist of eight (8) nominal two feet (2') diameter rocks placed
within the channel; four (4) immediately upstream of four (4) additional rocks. Three (3) nominal
four feet (4') diameter rocks will be placed immediately downstream of the two feet (2') diameter
rock rip rap course. Two (2) of these rocks will be placed side-by-side within the channel, while
the third will be placed centrally within the channel, immediately upstream of the others.
Nominal one foot (1') diameter rip rap will be evenly distributed within the feeder channels for
the length each was excavated, approximately fifteen feet (15') each. The rip rap will be
distributed along the base of the channel from its confluence with Ditch 8, upstream to the
beginning of excavation, and from side to side within each feeder channel.
R
