Form Removal <br /> 1. Forms shall be designed and constructed for removal without damage to <br /> concrete. <br /> 2. Forms and shoring shall not be removed until the concrete has attained <br /> sufficient strength to support its own weight and any construction or storage <br /> loads to which it may be subjected. In general the forms around the raised <br /> edge of the concrete shaft plug may be removed 24 hours after completion <br /> of placement. <br /> G. Tolerances <br /> 1. The top of the shaft plug shall be finished with a tolerance of+ 1/4-inch <br /> within specified elevation and with a variation from level of 1/4-inch in any <br /> 10 feet. <br /> H. Reinforcing Steel <br /> 1. Installation of reinforcing steel shall be in accordance with ACI 318 and the <br /> Design Drawings. Reinforcing steel shall not be bent or straightened in a <br /> manner injurious to the steel. Bars with kinks or bends not indicated on the <br /> Drawings shall not be used in the work. The use of heat to bend or <br /> straighten reinforcing steel shall only be authorized if specifically approved <br /> in advance by the Engineer. Before placement, reinforcing steel shall be <br /> thoroughly cleaned of loose or flaky rust, mill scale, or coatings of any <br /> foreign substance that would reduce or destroy the bond. Reinforcing steel <br /> reduced in section shall not be used in the work. Steel shall be placed where <br /> indicated on the Design Drawings. In the event of a substantial work delay, <br /> previously placed reinforcing steel left for future bonding shall be inspected <br /> and cleaned. Field splices, will not be allowed for the straight reinforcing <br /> bars in either mat, as indicated on the Design Drawings. <br /> 2. The circular reinforcing hoops shall be welded, as shown on the Design <br /> Drawings. <br /> 3. Prior to placing any reinforcing steel in thick mats (i.e., over 2'-0" thick), <br /> the Contractor shall design an adequate reinforcing steel support system to <br /> hold reinforcements for these mats to proper position as shown on the <br /> Design Drawings.
