Do„ald R Cc, aun Jr.
January 4, 2016
Page 3
Page 3 of 6
(i)
State the thickness of plant growth medium to be replaced. Sample and analyse
available uil> >officienrly to a.,iablih qua,aity and quality:
Please give a depth range for material to be replaced in the 8.14 acre area.
From the description -,Taff i, interpreting that 4 of the 6 acre mar di.,tarbance Will be flat enough to
have overburden and top -,oil replaced With a deer prior to-eeding. Plea -,e concur or clarify.
(ii)
State at what point in the mining plan the site will be seeded. Explain how the seedbed
will be prepared to eliminate compacted conditions (e.g., plowed, chiseled, disced).
State the type, application rate, and soil incorporation methods of fertilizer
application, if any. NOTE: Soil amendments shall only Be applied where soil tests
indicate nutrient deficiencies for the plant species to be established;
Statt interprets that 4 acres of the 8.14 acre mine site will have seed bed preparation and all of the 0.62
stockpile area will have seedbed preparation. Compacted areas will 6e ripped and areas with topsoil or
fine overburden will 6e disced.
(iv)
Specify the application method for grass and forb seeding. If the seed is to be
broadcast, the application rate shall be tvvice the rate required for seed drilling. If the
seedbed has not been adequately roughened prior to seeding, the seed shall be , aked
o, harrowed after broadcast application;
Using a combination of drill seeding, crimp mulching and hydroseeding will result in unnecessary
mobilization costs. The majority of the site is better suited for spray on applications. The Division will
estimate using all hydro seeding and hydromulching with a tackfier for this site.
Based on previous sections 5 acres of the 6 acres disturbed in the mining site will need revegetation.
All of the 0.62 acre stockpile site will be revegetated.
(v)
if a mulch i. ,eeaed, specify the kind to 6e used, the crimping method, and rate of
application, and
It is recommended that in applications where drill seeding is impractical that spray on mulching/erosion
control Be used.
