sampling in 2008 (conducted in support of the Phase II bond release) revealed that the
vegetation cover and species composition were more than adequate for erosion control
and either wildlife habitat or pasture (bond release documents hereby incorporated by
reference).
Schedule
Revegetation was implemented immediately following redistribution of soil.
Seed Mix/Seeding Methods
A basic grass and forb seed mixture was used in all areas revegetated after reclamation
(Table 5-6). The seed mix employed for final revegetation was the same seed mix
approved for the original post -mining land use of wildlife habitat (with the removal of
woody plants per the landowners request and the approval of CDRMS). At the time of
final reclamation, it was determined that the seed mix would be adequate to meet the
requirements of any and all post -mining land uses. Grasses and fortis were planted using
drill seeding and broadcast means. In the case of broadcast seeding, the seeding rates
were two times the rate shown in Table 5-6. No woody plants were planted in the
revegetated area (per the landowners request). After revegetation, verification of the
seeded species (seed mix composition and rate) were provided to CDRMS and approved.
Mulch
Mulching consisted of crimping hay or straw into the soil at the same time seeding takes
place. Mulch was applied at the rate of 2.0 tons per acre.
Irrigation
No irrigation was employed during revegetation at the Carbon Junction Mine.
Weed and Pest Control
Noxious weeds have been and continue to be controlled on the revegetated areas of the
mine site. Upon identification of an infestation, OEI will implement control measures.
Control measures will be implemented based on recommendations of the local NRCS or
agricultural extension office. OEI will modify the permit as necessary to address any
previously unspecified measures to be implemented.
Fertilization
No fertilization was employed during the revegetation of the Carbon Junction Mine.
Revegetation Success Criteria
As briefly described above, the post -mining land uses of the Carbon Junction Mine have
been changed over the life of the mine. Initially, the post -mining land uses were wildlife
Abridged Permit Document 5-9 Permit Revision PROI 9/2014
