The seed mix to restore dry rangeland to all reclaimed areas is given below:
Species
Variety
PLS/Acre
Seeds/sq.ft
Western Wheatgrass
Arriba
3.2
Indian Ricegrass
Nezpar
2.5
Streambank Wheatgrass
Siberian
2.2
Russian Wildrye
Vinal
2.0
Beardless Wheatgrass
Whitmar
2.4
Big Sagebrush
1.0
Totals
13.3
The rates above are for drill seeding, which will be the method employed on all mild sloping areas.
If the drill cannot negotiate the 2.5H:1.0V slopes, broadcast seeding will be employed at double the
rates per acre shown above. Seed will be drilled and certified weed -free mulch will be applied at the
rate of 3000 lbs per acre, and will be crimped into the soil surface. Commercial starter fertilizer will
be applied at the rate of 20 pounds available nitrogen.
Map F shows all the final contours and reclamation areas planned for the site. Map C-3 shows the
cross-sections of the reclaimed terrain in comparison with the original terrain. It is seen from this
map that the restored land is lower due to the gravel extraction but is more than adequate to achieve
the post -mining land use.
The landowners desire that the access road remain to maintain entry to the site from Highway 13.
Much of this access road is off the permit area.
3. Reclamation Timetable
Since mining of the new lease area is concurrent with reclamation, the timetable is somewhat tied to
the rate of mining in this area. Since actual sales are difficult to predict, the assumption will be made
Berry Pit 3/02 16
