RECLAMATION PLAN
temporary but impfemented as though it is permanent. This area is refbn%ld to as "tempor
reclamation"becattse it carmot be determined at this time that the grading will be final or wilf
eventually be destroyed by reniovaf of the material. As for the sonth side of the ditch corrido
west of the Littfe johnson area, greater flexibility exists which is dependent sofefy on
disposition of the ditch-.
---- 0 v_
OTHER GRADING CONCERNS: No acid-forming or toxic producing materials
occur on the site or result from the miningof these materials No drill or auger holes are created
during the mining. As described in the mining plan, mining only to a reasonable proximity of the
water table (actually about 5 feet above the water table) is the only other concern.
WATER: The only water concern in the reclamation regards the groundwater. Surface
drainage will be into the main pit to the west which is effectively a closed basin. If the mining is
done as described in LITTLE JOHNSON MINING PLAN IN Exhibit D - Mining Plan then the
groundwater will not be adversely affected.
WILDLIFE: Wildlife resources on this site are currently very limited due to the loss of habitat
from development of surrounding lands (see Exhibit H). The only quality habitat exists on the
eastern side of the Little Johnson basin where there is abundant tree cover and very diverse
habitats that primarily support birds. It is likely that fox, racoon, deer, mice, and other mammals
also live in this area to some extent. Within the mining area there is no quality habitat although
the abundant weeds probably provide some food source for birds. None of the quality habitat will
be affected. After reclamation, reduced weeds and increased grasses will improve the habitat
over what is presently in the mining area. It is even possible that some of the grasses to be
planted will be able to tap into the groundwater and thus produce local areas of rich grass
dominated habitat.
TOPSOILING. On the Little Johnson area topsoil andoverburdeare considered to be
equivalent materials. It all can be used as a growth medium (referred to as "soil,"hereafter). This
is different from most of the site where there is usually a clear distinction between topsoil and
subsoil and overburden. The reason for this is that the presence of the reservoir for many years
infiltrated the subsoils with clays, silts, and organic matter. This effectively created 4 deep soiT.`
Topsoil and overburden will be stockpiled together south of the mining area, but inside
the affected land boundary. Once the mining is completed it is a matter of hauling the soil around
to the east side and spreading the soil westward down the finished slope.
Daniels Sand Pit Amendment (2008) Exhibit E Page 7 of 22
