MINING PLAN
This will rebuild a dry zone between the moist sand and the surface to help insure that ground water
is not exposed. Although this soil layer may, in time, become moist that will only aid in the growth
of the desired final vegetation.
The final result of this approach to the mining will produce a rather gentle west facing slope
that starts at the eastern end of the area mined (roughly 100 feet east of the current upper water zone
extraction wells) and extends westward to meet the nearly flat bottom of the existing pit in the
vicinity of the current permit boundary. It is estimated that at least 80% of the sand to be removed
from the Little Johnson area will be contained in the land between the current mining limit (west of
the current permit boundary) and the upper zone extraction wells.:
Finally, it is important to recognize that the LJR groundwater extraction wells, their
associated underground power line and underground water pipeline to the treatment plant will all b
removed as a result of mining. This is fully acceptable to the remediation program as evidenced in
documents elsewhere in this amendment. The Bradley Road groundwater extraction system (wells,
power, and pipelines) will not be affected by this mining as they are all located well away from the
mining area.
NORTH END OF LITTLE JOHNSON AREA: Mining the north end of the Little Johnson area
must be done with considerable care to avoid affecting the ditch corridor, IF THE DTICH HAS NOT
BEEN RELOCATED BY THIS TIME.
final slope. Althongh the reclaination plan maps show this area as a temporary reefamation aTea, the
. . - - st assunie that the appropriate temporary reclamation-mill become the permanent
reclamation.
No mining can occur north of a line 50' south of the current ditch alignment UNTIL THE
DITCH IS RELOCATED. The final slope created in the mining will be 3 0 f or less steep. The final
sf ope will not be created by backfilf ing a steeper slope.
fn the event . .-; created in the Little ofmson area, this slope wif! ffirm the northert
edge of the reservoir. Theref6re, the material here needs to be native, undisturbed material to
maintain the highest integrity of the slope.
On the other hand, WHEN if the ditch is relocated as
described in THIS AMENDEDMENT , then this slope and the ditch
corridor will be mined through at some point in the future. But that mining cannot occur until a
decision is inade regarding the construction of a reservoir A the ditch is relocated. went
this area is removed, then it will most likely be removed as part of the Phase 5e inining mid not the
P'hase-4e mnmrg-
The mining of this areaninst be consistent with the MOST fimiting possible fature nse.
elearly, an !hat the reservoir will be bnift is the most finfiting firtuTe use. ff the reservoir
Daniels Sand Pit Amendment (2008) Exhibit D Page 16 of 28
