to the former permittee, and the former permittee is not due any monetary consideration as a result of
this Termination of Jurisdiction process.
IV. Reclamation Projects
The Division commenced reclamation of the site in the summer of 1990. Work involved sealing and
backfilling the access portal, demolishing and removing certain mine structures and electrical
utilities to the north of GCR 117, and sealing the fan portal south of the road. The air intake adit
collapsed behind the portal seal in 1994, creating a depression at the surface roughly 15 feet in
diameter and more than 50 feet deep. The collapse was reclaimed in the summer of 1994 by IMRP.
Removal of a failing crib wall adjacent to and on the north side of the road, backfill of the settlement
or collapse over the lower fan portal (below the road), cleanup of miscellaneous equipment and
mining debris, and reseeding of re -disturbed areas was accomplished in October of 1999 by IMRP.
The collapsed cribbing around the lower fan adit was removed and buried on site and the subsidence
inby of the adit seal was repaired on September 9, 2013.
Weed Control
Several Colorado listed noxious weeds were noted at the Sunlight Mine including absinth
wormwood, cheatgrass, Canada thistle, bindweed, houndstongue, oxeye daisy and mullein. All of
the noxious species combined accounted for 4.8% of cover in 2013 and 4.5% in 2014. The weeds at
the minesite have not been treated for at least the last 10 years because of the lack of funds.
V. Sediment and Erosion Control
The clean water diversion ditch above the upper portal area is to remain. The western side of the ditch
is blocked due to the hillside slumping. The blockage forces the water out of the ditch and down the
face of the hillside to a vegetated flat area. A couple of small rills have formed on the hillside as a result
of the blocked ditch. Below the hillside, the water flows onto a vegetated flat area where there is no
further evidence of sediment movement. The ditch blockage has not been repaired due to lack of
available funding.
The sediment pond below the scale area is also to remain. The County Road 117 road -side ditch drains
through a culvert and into the pond. This culvert is maintained by the County. The pond and its
embankment are well vegetated.
VI.
