(Amec Foster Wheeler) has
prepared this technical memorandum for the Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining
Company (CC&V) in response to a problem identified by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety (DRMS) in an inspection report dated September 1,
2015. This memorandum addresses one item of four presented in the DRMS inspection
report as follows:
PROBLEM/POSSIBLE VIOLATION: Problem: The observed ponded water in the
SGVLF PSSA may pose geotechnical slope instability problems that may lead to
sloughing on the certified and approved PSSA liner.
CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: Provide a geotechnical slope stability analysis
assuming saturated material exits at the toe of the DCF covered liner to assess
the impact on the factors of safety presented in the MLE2/Amendment 10 slope
stability exhibit.
This work was conducted at the request of CC&V on September 8, 2015 and included a
site visit by Brett Byler of Amec Foster Wheeler on September 9, 2015. A slope stability
evaluation was subsequently conducted of Drain Cover Fill (DCF) and spent ore placed
to date in the Pregnant Solution Storage Area (PSSA) of the Squaw Gulch Valley Leach
Facility (SGVLF). The evaluation is based on criteria presented in the SGVLF Design
report (AMEC, 2011) as part of the MLE2/Amendment 10. The results of the site visit and
stability evaluation are presented in this memorandum.
Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure, Inc.
2000 S.
