PLAN FOR GROUND WATER MONITORING OF RAPID AND COTTONWOOD CREEKS
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Powderhorn Coal Company proposes to monitor the depth of water in
the alluvium of Rapid and Cottonwood Creeks. The monitoring plan
includes four (4) wells within the permit area. Two sets of two
wells each will be placed on Rapid Creek and Cottonwood Creek. A
third set of wells will be located west of the permit area on Rapid
Creek near Surface Water Gauging Station SWGS-04. The wells within
the permit area will be completed over proposed mine workings and
approximately one year of baseline data will be collected prior to
mining.
2.0 MONITORING WELL LOCATIONS
The proposed locations are shown on the Alluvial Ground Water Moni-
toring Location Map of Drawing SL -16-008. Each site location in the
permit area will have two wells drilled into the alluvium. The wells
will be spaced at a minimum of five feet apart and no greater than 10
feet apart. Ground Water Monitoring Station GWMS-02 will be located
approximately 2200 feet upstream from the confluence on Cottonwood
Creek. Ground Water Monitoring Station GWMS-03 will be located approxi-
mately 2300 feet upstream of the confluence on Rapid Creek. Ground
Water Monitoring Station GWMS-01 will be located outside the permit
area near Surface Water Gauging Station SWGS-04 approximately 3300 feet
downstream from the Rapid and Cottonwood Creek confluence.
-1-
