Figure 2 Recent Photograph
Access to the area will generally be from the road above and will be made to ft the Contractor's
needs. The Contractor may create other access to the area, should this be deemed necessary.
Warm and burning refuse material will be removed from the embankment using construction
equipment. The excavated material can then be extinguished by quenching, cooling or by
suffocation. Excavation activities will not adversely affect the embankment stability.
The Contractor will ensure that fire will not spread to surrounding vegetation through removal or
wetting of the vegetation.
Typical construction equipment to be used in the material extraction may consist of a track
mounted excavator, a dump truck and a front end loader. Excavator Operators will have a
continuous hand held air monitor that will detect carbon monoxide levels. Construction
equipment will be located and relocated to avoid operator exposures of more than 50 ppm of
carbon monoxide. One Ocenco M-20 will be provided for the excavator operator and will be
kept in the cab for emergency use.
A water truck with connected fire hose and nozzle will be located upwind of the work area to
quench hot material and to provide fire protection.
