Al
Mr. Peter Hays, DRMS
September 18, 2015
(d) No monitoring or analyses were performed for this situation since process water and/or
material was not released off-site and did not impact waters of the United States.
(e) The investigation for this event is still ongoing. At present, the low-pressure leak coming
from between the anchor block and TDL has been stopped using WaterStop, a product
which swells up in the presence of water, to stop leaks. At present, the system is
currently running, and the area continues to be monitored for leaks. If any are noticed,
flow will again be diverted to the Emergency or No. 1 Cutout structures upstream of the
release point. Camera services have been requested for the line in the upcoming weeks.
The plan is to send a camera device down the line to inspect the interior of the line.
Based upon the position of the anchor block, it is covering a welded seam. The seam is
suspected to be the cause of the issue. Ultimately, once a cause of the leak can be
determined, our plan is to cut this section of the pipe out of the line and reinstall a piece
of HDPE where the leak originates. This work is anticipated to be completed within the
next month, when a camera probe system and a 42" fusion welder can be mobilized to
the site. Henderson will plan to follow-up with the Division once upcoming information is
ascertained and a repair is complete.
If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 720-942-3518 or
Miguel Hamarat at 720-942-3255.
Sincerely,
Tim Haynes
Sr. Environmental Engineer
Climax Molybdenum Company
Henderson Mill
CC (via email):
B.
