The TDL is designated as an environmental protection facility in
Henderson's Environmental Protection Plan. The release is believed to have begun just after 7:30AM the
morning of September 11, 2015. It is believed to have lasted a very short period of time based on reports
from the pond operator who discovered the leak. While the Henderson Mill was transitioning into shut
down, tailing from the line was being flushed with process water. The pond operator reported a wet area
on the berming which covers the TDL. Upon investigation he discovered that water was seeping out of
the tailing delivery line between the piping and an anchor block attached to the line. The flow rate
reported at that point was "a few gallons per minute", later clarified as up to 4gpm at the height of flow.
The discharge material was predominantly water with some tailing material in it.
(a) After discovering the issue, the pond operator immediately had the flow in the line
diverted to the emergency cutout structure, which stopped the flow from the release point
within a short time.
(b) Mill process water flow did not adversely impact human health, property or the
environment. All material associated with this event flowed along the TDL access road
and through a culvert directly onto the No. 3 Dam beach.
(c) The contact person for this event is:
Tim Haynes
19302 County Road 3,
Parshall, CO 80468
Phone: 720-942-3518
timothy haynes(cDfmi.com
