ti
New Castle Energy Corporation
July 9, 1986
Mr . Jeff Deckler
Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation Division
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Your Comments to NCEC' s 1985 Annual Hydrology Report,
Coal Ridge No. 1
Dear Mr. Deckier :
NCEC has reviewed your memo of June 4 , 1986, to Mr. Mike Fisher
regarding the 1985 Annual Hydrology Report. This letter answers
all of your questions and comments. We are not able to answer
some of your questions since personnel has changed significantly
over the past year . We may be able to answer these concerns once
the mine becomes operational again and an environmental
specialist is hired . Please note that monthly hydrologic
monitoring is still being performed at the mine site.
NCEC' s comments to your questions are as follows:
1. Missing field data, primarily pH and conductivity, are mainly
due to faulty equipment. There have been instances when measur-
ing equipment has failed in the field and repairs could not be
effected in time to obtain that current months ' reading. NCEC
will continue to endeavor to take all the required readings. It
should be noted that data previous to 1985 had been included in
our permit.
One monitoring well, SK-3.75, has been difficult to monitor on
a consistent basis. This hole is on the south side of the Grand
Hogback and is difficult to access during inclement weather or
during the winter due to snow build-up. Every effort will be
made to obtain samples from the well.
2. Data sheets for dry wells will be included in the 1986 Annual
Hydrology Report.
New Castle Energy Corporation • 9137 East Mineral Circle • Englewood, CO 80112 • (303) 792-2625
