EXHIBIT D - Mining Plan
This is an expansion of an existing open pit mine. To access the pit from Sterling, take Colorado
Highway 14 west approximately 4.5 miles to CR 29. Proceed north 2 miles on CR 29 to the
intersection of CR 32. Proceed east 0.4 mile to the pit entrance. There is already an existing
road from CR 32 heading south, southwest to the permitted area
We anticipate the life of this mine to be 15-20 years depending on the amount of material
available and the demand for sand and gravel in the market area. Mining has already been in
progress on the existing 9.9 110 permit. Mining will expand as the original area is exhausted and
the need for more material requires. The material will be used primarily to supply demand for
the oil and gas operations in the surrounding area. The pit should be classified as an intermittent
pit. It will be utilized as the need occurs.
Mining in the existing 110 area will continue to move from north to south and from east to west.
Once that area is mined, the remaining expanded area will be opened in small tracts. These are
identified on the mining map. Tract 1 has been expanded to include the originally identified
area outside the original boundaries. By staging future mining efforts to smaller tracts, the
financial warranty covering the pit will be reduced to only those areas open. The operator will
notify the Division as new areas are opened.
The mining plan remains essentially the same as it was when the permit was taken over by Kym
Schure. As new areas are opened, the topsoil will be removed and stockpiled for future
reclamation efforts. There is overburden before the desired sand and gravel are reached, but the
overburden is also a marketable material. It will be mined and sold, just as the sand and gravel.
As material is mined it will be stockpiled at the base of existing slopes for future gravel
screening purposes. The floor of the mine is essentially level. Slopes in the original permit area
were approved at 2:1. Slopes in any of the expanded area will be 3:1 as mining progresses.
On-site equipment may include front-end loaders, scrapers, dozers, and gravel trucks. The
operator does plan on utilizing screens for processing stations on site. Water is not used in the
operation.
There will be no shop, plant, or other facilities permanently located at the mine site. Equipment
will be maintained at the site only when mining is occurring. This will be on a periodic basis
since material will only be mined on an as needed basis. Equipment will typically be filled with
fuel from portable fuel tanks. Any portable tanks at the site will be placed out of the drainage
area and out of the active working area to prevent fuel spills or related hazards. These factors
and good housekeeping will minimize the potential of any contamination. Equipment will be
serviced out of the mining area.
