August 12, 2015 C-1994-082/Yoast Mine JHB
Pond 13 and Pond 14 were both holding pools of water but neither was discharging.
Gully west of SP06 still needs repair. SCC stated that contractor will be on site conducting maintenance repairs
the week of August 17-21.
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE:
A white pick up and an ATV along with 5 people were observed from a distance at the southern extent of
the permit area. They appeared to be in Section 29 or Section 30. It appeared that they were maintaining fences.
No cattle are grazing on the property yet. SCC scheduled grazing leases to start after vegetation sampling crews
completed the sampling efforts.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
The patch of Musk thistle noted in the July 28, 2015 inspection on the saddle of the North Pit were
sprayed July 29. This Musk thistle patch has effectively taken up the herbicide as can be noted by the die -off and
stagnation of seed maturation. (Photo 1). This patch is located within a shrub plot. Shrub plots tend towards
noxious weed invasion due to the reduction of grass species to minimize competition and allow establishment of
the shrubs. Care is taken when spraying these shrub plots not to kill the established shrubs when attempting to
control the weeds. Choke cherry trees are re -sprouting from the root crown within the North pit Shrub plot. (photo
2)
The Shrub plot in Armand draw is looking healthy with considerable growth of the trees and shrubs.
Aspen trees in the undisturbed areas look very sickly.
SCC's consultants had been on the site the preceding weekend conducting vegetation sampling. The Division was
unable to schedule an observer to be on site during the weekend when the consultant was conducting the sampling.
Pre -sampling meeting and subsequent conversations with the consultant did not present any undue concerns about
the proposed sampling methodologies. The sampling crews were done on the site at the time of the inspection.
Musk thistle patch on the west side of LU313, that was observed being sprayed by SCC on July 29, 2015 is
effectively dying. Seed maturation was halted.
SP06 shrub plot is looking very healthy with good shrub and tree growth.
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
The aspen farm at the southern extent of the permit area is looking healthy with lots of new growth this
summer.
Vegetation throughout the mine site looks very good. Site is still green, with vegetation just beginning to dry
down.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 3 of 5
