August 11, 2015 C-2009-087/Peabody Sage Creek Mine JLE
control techniques that can be installed by hand. Given this area is fairly remote, the Division agrees with
this course of action.
o This area was observed with Mr. Cowman, and it does not appear significant additional erosion
has occurred. This are will need to be monitored.
A slump above the farthest southeast portal above the second bench was observed during the May 26,
2015 aerial inspection. The slump was observed during this inspection. The slump is about six to eight
feet deep; Mr. Cowman indicated he would evaluate the slump.
o PSCM staff has evaluated the slump and do not believe it will cause any environmental or public
safety concerns given its location and that the mine is idle. The slump does not appear to have
changed significantly since it was first noticed. It does not appear corrective action is necessary at
this time; however, this slump will need to be monitored.
OFFSITE SUPPORT FACILIITES - Rule 4.04,4.28:
The following item was noted during pervious Division inspections:
A large propane tank is located on the west side of Road B. This tank does not appear to be depicted on
Map 2.05.3M1A. However, a propane tank is depicted as facility 416 on Map 2.05.3MIA and is located
on the east side of Road B adjacent to the Waste Handling and Recycle Area. There does not appear to be
a propane tank at this location as depicted on the map. Please revise this map to depict the correct location
of the propane tank.
o Mr. Cowman indicated he would address this issue with either a revision to the permit or during
the permit renewal process currently underway.
TOPSOIL — Rule 4.06; Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3;
Redistribution 4.06.4:
The topsoil stockpile was stable and vegetated. A topsoil identification marker was in place.
• Thistle was observed on the pile and will need to be treated.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: I
Page 8 of 10
