August 11, 2015 C-2009-087/Peabody Sage Creek Mine JLE
Figure 6. Mountain brush reference area.
Thistle was observed throughout the equipment storage areas and the coal stockpile pad adjacent to the portal area.
Mr. Cowman indicated additional weed control spraying will occur.
The old bone yard area was observed. The area is stable and dense vegetation has established. Obvious signs of
weed control were observed.
The following maintenance item was noted during the June, 2015 inspection:
• A small area where sparse vegetation is established was observed on the Solid Waste Disposal area. Straw
waddles have been installed in this area for erosion control. The waddles have blown out in several places
and should be repaired. Several small rills have formed in this area, however they are fairly small.
o This area was observed, with Mr. Cowman. The vegetation appears to be establishing well
enough to stabilize the rills that were noted. However, this area should be monitored and the
erosion control waddles may need to be repaired in the future.
SUBSIDENCE — Rule 4.20:
The mine remains idle.
SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12:
The following maintenance items were noted during pervious Division inspections:
• An erosion gully has formed adjacent to drainage SIIPM-6. This gully is below stock tank T32 on the
northwest side of the drainage. The gully is about one to two feet in depth. Some vegetation has begun to
establish in the gully, however it does not appear to be stabilizing. Mr. Cowman and I discussed this
issue. He is concerned about mobilizing equipment to this area to repair this gully as that activity may
cause more damage. He indicated PSCM would attempt to stabilize this gully using various erosion
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 7 of 10
