Therefore, exposure of ground water must not occur during or after mining operations. The proposed operation will consume surface water by: 0 evaporation, dust control, reclamation, water removed in the mined product, processing, other: Any storm water runoff intercepted by this operation that is not diverted or captured in priority must infiltrate into the ground or be released to the stream system within 72 hours; otherwise, the operator is required to make replacements for evaporation. The applicant has indicated plans to use water at the permit site for the following purposes: dust control, reclamation, processing, other: __ COMMENTS: The application seeks to add 4.4 acres to the currently permitted 61.78 acres at the Brownstone Quarry, for a total permitted area of 69.32 acres. The Brownstone Quarry is a sandstone mining operation located approximately 2 miles north of Laporte, Colorado. Upon completion of mining operations, the site is proposed to be reclaimed to its current use of pastureland. According to the application, the operation will not affect surface or ground water. However, according to the reining plan, the excavated area collects storm water when a significant rain or snowfall occurs. The storm water is held until it can slowly leach through the ground below or evaporate, which according to the mining plan can take up to 10 days after a severe storm event. Any storm water runoff intercepted by this operation that is not diverted or captured in priority must infiltrate into the ground or be released to the stream system within 72 hours. Otherwise, the operator is required to make replacements for evaporation pursuant to an approved substitute water supply plan or decreed plan for augmentation.
