1) Through the use of visual berms of 6-8' height along Highway 9 south of the town of Alma, the mining
and processing activities should be for the most part invisible. There is a constructed berm blocking the
Town's view of the gold wash plant as of the end of 2014.
2) Any time that a concrete plant or asphalt plant is temporarily used on site, it will be placed near the
eastern edge of the operation, away from the town and it also will be located at a lower elevation than
the higher points of the site to keep it as invisible as possible.
3) The gold operation will primarily be digging material that is below the water table which will keep dust
down simply by the wet nature of the material. All gravel operations will either be processing wet
material from the gold plant or waste gravel from past operations.
4) All crushers will be contained and will have water sprays and screen plants will also contain water
sprays to keep dust down. Roads will either be sprayed with magnesium chloride or will be watered on
an as needed basis. The Trust will provide the town with a phone number to call if for any reason dust
levels are high and correction is needed. The site will have a fugitive dust permit from the Air Quality
Control Division of the CDPHE and all individual portable plants such as the processing plant, asphalt
plant and concrete plant, will have their own individual permits for dust control with the CDPHE.
5) By extending gravel processing over the old gold tailings areas, this will remove theses unsightly piles
and both the gold and gravel operators will be required to conduct strict topsoil and fines salvage
operations to provide a growth medium for reclamation. Without these activities and strict soil salvage
stipulations, there would never be enough money to reclaim the site and make it look better for
everyone.
6) Hours of operation will be limited to 12 hours per day for 6 days per week. By necessity, the operation
will be very limited during the winter months.
7) Currently the operation has two main accesses, one north of the town of Alma (Access #6) and one
immediately south of the town (Access #1), as shown on Map C-2. Traffic for the future operation is
not expected to increase significantly from that experienced in the year 2000. In 2003, traffic is expected
to be less due to the poor economy and increased competition. In 2003, gold mining will force Access
#1 to be disrupted. The traffic for this access will be moved to Access #4, slightly south of Access #1.
Alma Place Mine 01/15 37
